The high route leading from Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte to Stripsenjochhaus was former called "Sunkaiser-high route" because it leads along the south face of the mountain range. If you decide to hike this route you will have the opportunity to see some of the greatest landscapes of the northern alps.
Day 1: Ebbs - Stripsenjochhaus - 14,1km - 1530 hm - 7 h
The tour starts in Ebbs, past Feldberg you follow the signposts in the direction of Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte. Shortly afterwards we arrive in the Kaiserforest and follow the "Musikantensteig" about 50min uphill until we reach the "Musikantentreff". From here you are hiking on a steep path along the rock, taking numerous steps and serpentines uphill until you get to a fork in the path (Ritzau Alm/Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte). At this fork turn left and after about 15 minutes you'll arrive at the Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte (1.384m). After a short break we take a short passage back on the approach, then turn left onto the high route. At the first passage to Edelfeldenalm the track slightly leads downhill or even across flat terrain. From here you follow the path through the forest uphill, past the fork in the path leading to Pyramidenspitze, heading straight. The path leads down- and uphill to Hachalm (1403m). From this point you follow the ascending path to the ridge of the Ropanzen (you can hike up to the highest point in about 10min, highly recommended because of the view). On the other side downhill on partly well-worn path to the Feldalmsattel (1433m). Futher south, then left along the mountainside on the ridge between Stripsenkopf (1807m) and Oberer Häuslkopf (1578m). From here you traverse the mountainside and follow the rugged path to Stripsenjochhaus (1577m), where we stay overnight. 4 1/2 hours.
Day 2: Stripsenjochhaus - Ebbs
From the Stripsenjochhaus you follow a narrow path to Hans-Berger-Haus. Both of the huts invite you to stop by and have a bite to eat or to stay overnight (for those who want to split the tour on two days).
Further in the direction of Hinterbärenbad and at Hinterbärenbad-Anton Karg Haus you take the path to your right leading uphill. Follow the path until you arrive at the Ritzau Alm (1159m), where you can have a snack and regain power for the descent. Further along a steep path, which is secured with a wire rope (sure-footed, not scared of heights) and following the forest path back to the starting point. (Option: Descent past Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte and approach).
