A highly demanding day tour on a partially cable-secured, exposed trail.
The Kaiserschützensteig is a long, alpine via ferrata with difficulty ratings of B/C and 1+. Not all sections of the route are secured with cables, and you’ll frequently find yourself in unsecured hiking terrain. Absolute surefootedness and a head for heights are essential. The approach to the via ferrata and the descent from the summit of Ellmauer Halt should not be underestimated either.
While the via ferrata itself does not directly lead to the summits of Kleine Halt and Gamshalt, they can be easily included along the way. The reward for the effort is breathtaking scenic views amidst the rugged peaks of the Wilder Kaiser.
