Where a handshake still holds value
Although he has been a true nature boy since childhood and loves the silence of the forest, he also enjoys being among people. Hannes Trainer, owner of the carpentry shop Trainer in Thiersee, is a "Grader Michl"—with him, you know where you stand, and his word is his bond. His customers know this too, which is why he can look back on a thriving business that primarily gains contracts through word of mouth.
There are certain values that are paramount in Hannes Trainer's life. These include family cohesion, respectful interaction with nature, and honesty towards his fellow human beings. Based on this foundation, the master carpenter leads a successful family business that he took over from his father in 2013. His father founded the family business in 1976, focusing primarily on installing traditional Tyrolean farmers' parlors. It was clear to Hannes that he also wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and complete a carpentry apprenticeship. He completed this in the family business and finally passed the master examination in 1995. For a time, he also worked in other companies to gain even more experience. The farming business at his home, then run by his grandmother and father, required Hannes and his two sisters to help out time and again. Even today, three generations live under one roof here. Hannes's father now takes care of the farming and horse breeding, the younger sister looks after the holiday apartments, and Hannes manages the carpentry business. The second sister runs the organic butcher shop Juffinger in Thiersee with her husband. All family members do not shy away from work, that much is clear.
Initial consultation & conversation are the most important
It involves very intensive customer conversations conducted on-site with people when they come to Hannes to realize their heartfelt project. Nowadays, they often bring pictures from the internet that they like and wish to implement with their local carpenter. These often involve young first-time furnishers who want to ensure that the complete interior design is visually cohesive and as practical as possible from the outset. The trend has shifted towards comprehensive concepts, with individual building elements being rarely pursued anymore. As an interior decorator for an entire house or apartment, one inevitably spends a lot of time during a very important phase of life with the people. Hannes is always personally present for the initial and final contact. According to his experience, availability, honesty, and service are everything in this profession. People must be able to trust him completely, which is why he lays all the cards on the table immediately if a mistake occurs. It's no wonder that over the years, many beautiful friendships have developed with a lot of his customers.
Lived regionality in everyday life
Currently, his clients primarily come from the districts of Kufstein or Kitzbühel and from Southern Bavaria, as Thiersee is located in the border area. Of course, it is generally possible to deliver his products anywhere. For complete interior construction, he often has to collaborate a lot with other craftsmen. Whether they are plumbers, glaziers, electricians, or other professions—all are from the surrounding area, mostly from Thiersee. Many of Hannes Trainer's raw materials are also sourced from the region. Currently, customers are particularly interested in oak, larch, and reclaimed wood. He obtains spruce, beech, and larch from the local forests. In the 600m2 large drying warehouse, the wood is naturally dried. There is also a very good collaboration with the Juffinger sawmill from Hinterthiersee.
For several years now, the master carpenter has noticed that people are increasingly placing value on purchasing from regional companies and using regional service providers. He feels that the enthusiasm for "big" manufacturers of cheap furniture has diminished as people have seen how much quality suffers under such productions. Quality has regained higher importance, and thanks to current climate protection and environmental issues, people are also beginning to plan and purchase for the long term again to counteract the madness of disposability. These developments are felt as a regional business, and they have a distinctly positive impact on it.
