Hiking & cable cars in Kufsteinerland

Alpine idyll

There are less and less dense forests. Just single trees standing in the Alpine meadows. Dark spots on vast, moss green expanses. The trail leads through fields of mountain pine. A narrow path. Light grey cliffs rise up imposingly. Every now and again the mountain hut becomes visible behind the hilltops. Culinary delicacies from the region beckon. The journey is the attraction. Every step takes you further away from everyday life. Breathtaking views. Silence. Stillness. This description doesn't only apply to the widely known Kaiser Mountains, with Ellmauer Tor as their highest peak. The Kaisertal, a natural line between the Zahmer and Wilder Kaiser, is far from the only popular hiking area in Kufsteinerland. You can also find perfect conditions in the Thiersee Valley, which is so vast that even a two-week vacation isn't long enough to explore all its paths. These naturally include Pendling, the region's local mountain, which is clearly visible even from a distance. Directly on the border with Bavaria are the Spitzstein and Kranzhorn hiking areas. They also contain many excellent trails, which attract hikers with their tranquility and excellent views. The 4 lake hike, for example, is a true gem. The natural lakes are mysterious and well-hidden in the middle of the forest. Despite this they are easy to reach and the hike is sure to be a favourite with any hiker.

The Tyrol mountains around the fortress town and the eight picturesque villages in Kufsteinerland are a realm in themselves. A hiking paradise which has so many facets. From one alpine lodge to another. Culinary discoveries. Through unspoilt conservation areas. The Kaisertal valley, chosen as the loveliest place in Austria in 2016. A themed trail for all the senses. Health. The culture of mountain farming. Roam through the Hollywood of the Alps. Walking on historic paths. The cable cars take you in comfort up to the top. High alpine adventures for all the family. Adventure realms filled with witches and forest spirits. The free summer adventure programme in Kufsteinerland invites you to enjoy adventures together. From an energetic healing hike with an Energy Coach to a visit to the Haflinger Alm. The inspirational mountains in Kufsteinerland.

The Alpine Region Tegernsee Schliersee, Chiemsee-Alpenland Tourism, Kufsteinerland, and the Interreg/Euregio Inntal jointly conducted a cross-border Interreg project, “Awareness and Networking for the Bavarian-Tyrolean Alpine Region in Relation to Alpine Farming; Especially for Mountain Hiking and Nature Guides.” The aim of this project was to promote and disseminate knowledge about the social, economic, and ecological importance of alpine pastures. For this purpose, the Rural Training Institute of Tyrol, under the leadership of Thomas Lorenz, developed a training concept, and in May 2017, 29 mountain, hiking, and nature guides from Tyrol and Bavaria gained additional knowledge about alpine pastures and their management in our common border region through two pilot events. The culmination of the training was the Alpine Guide Symposium on June 21st.
