56 hectares of crystal-clear mountain water, up to 36 meters deep. The lake is located at 883 m above Scheffau in the middle of the Kaiser Mountains nature reserve. Clear mountain air. Lush green meadows. Pure relaxation. On a walk around Hintersteinersee you can sometimes see all the way to the bottom. Meditative. Beautiful views. Turquoise Kaiser water.

Easy access

The northern shore of Hintersteinersee is easily accessible for anyone thanks to the road. This is where you find the public bathing beach, which impresses with its naturalness. For most of the year the lake is mainly recommended for the feet, and is excellent for promoting circulation, in some cases it is also suitable for hardy swimmers - after a long hike or as quick refreshment. The lake is one of the cleanest in the Tyrolean Lowlands, and is of drinking water quality. It is filled by underground springs. In general the lake warms up to 19 or 20 degrees in the middle of summer. From the Seestüberl guest house you can reach the lake with the "Seebus", which runs daily in summer.

The picturesque southern shore & more

There is a café on the southern shore of Hintersteinersee, which invites you to enjoy a refreshment. It is located in the middle of a small natural bathing lido with tranquil sunbathing lawns. The lido also has restrooms and change rooms, and rents out sun lounges and sun umbrellas. As well as this there are restaurants and snack stations all around the lake, which invite you to relax. A beautiful path leads all around the lake, with minimal height differences, and takes around one hour. The peaks of the famous Scheffauer and the Treffauer are always in view.
