From the mountain into the valley

When the days start to get shorter, the nights colder and autumn awakens in its full beauty, the cows, sheep and horses come back into the valley from their alms in the Tyrolean Mountains. They have been up on the alms since spring. Movement. The best grass and herbs. Now their safe return is celebrated. Bringing home the cattle. In the early morning hours the Alpine herdsman, dairyman and farmers are up, decorating their cows and starting the often many kilometre long walk down into the valley. The spectacular head decorations, highly polished bells and belts are the farmers' way of saying thank you for a safe summer on the alm. In Kufsteinerland this custom is followed according to old traditions. The celebrations in the valley are characterised by culinary delights. Farm products. Zillertal "Krapfen" (doughnuts). "Kiachl" (fried pastry). The cows bring the flair of the alm into the valley, to the fortress city with its surrounding nature and to the eight picturesque villages. A celebration for all the senses.
