Museums & Monuments

Apart from wonderful nature our region also offers many historical treasures. Baroque churches, chapels and monuments but also castles, museums and handicrafts from the past. Have a look and be astonished!

The guardian angel shrine is located on the "Dallnscheibe" and was built in 2004.

The 3.5 m high Andreas Hofer Memorial was erected on the Kalvarienberg in 1926 and provides a really lovely view of the town and of Kufstein Fortress.

This memorial, unveiled in 1904, soars into the sky and is not far from the Madersperger Memorial. It is in remembrance of the "Hero of Kalafat" namely Baron von Spindler who came from Kufstein and in 1790, as leader of a small group in Romania, conquered the Turks.

This commemorative stone marks the twinning of the towns of Fraufenfeld and Kufstein. The large commemorative stone was made out of granite in Switzerland by the sculptor Peter Hotz and since the celebration to mark its division (04.06.1988), has been made up of two halves, whereby one is located in Kufstein and one in Frauenfeld. Carved on to the stones are the precise "signposts" to each partner town, with details on the directions and the distance (as the crow flies). The commemorative stone can be found above the Dean Hörfarter‘s fountain at the town hall (between St. Vitus Parish Church and the town hall).

A gift to mark the 5th anniversary of the twinning with the town of Rovereto, a marble statue entitled "The Embrace" by the artist Alberto Biasi, can be found at the Eppenstein thoroughfare, in the ‘Wasserbastei’ area.

A family-friendly walk up Hero’s Hill (Heldenhügel). The war memorial chapel and the Andreas Hofer Memorial can be seen from here.

The memorial of the longstanding Deacon Dr. M. Hörfarter, stands at the workplace between the town hall and St. Vitus parish church. Mr. Hörfarter set up the 1st Tirol kindergarten and made a great contribution to the town through his work in tourism.

The memorial to Karl Ganzer, the creator of the Kufstein song, was created in 1995 by qualified sculptor Helmut Nidnl, and is located in Römerhofgasse in Kramsach. The piece was designed using a combination of glass/stainless steel, while a mixing technique was used for the portrait, while the drawing and photos were superimposed using a laser print technique.

The Kink Memorial in the upper town square is in remembrance to Franz Kink, imperial surveyor of the highways and founder of the cement works, "Kufsteiner Cement", and of his son Anton, who continued and improved upon the work which his father had begun.

This ought to be described as the most impressive and most symbolic of Kufstein’s memorials. A life-size structure depicting Friedrich List (died 1846) stands in front of a semi-circle of six marble columns, looking thoughtfully into the distance. The location of the installation in an open meadow area, away from any town area conveys what List wanted, when he endeavoured to create a European railway network, a customs union and to break down trade barriers, namely the concepts of far-sightedness and co-operation. (Location: at the edge of the forest, close to the Kaiserlift).

The Madersperger Memorial is set in a superb avenue of chestnut trees at Kienbichl and is in remembrance to Kufstein’s master tailor, Josef Madersperger, the inventor of the sewing machine. However, he did not succeed in seeing his invention put to good use, and died in 1850 in residential accommodation in St. Marx/Vienna. (Location: in a park in Kienbergstraße)
