"Unserer lieben Frau Geburt" parish church is one of the most beautiful Baroque churches in Tirol. It was built between 1748 and 1756 by the Bavarian builder Abraham Millauer. During your visit you should take a look at the ceiling paintings by Tirol citizen J. Adam Mölk, the high altar by Josef Martin Lengauer and the organ by Johann Pirchner from Steinach am Brenner, which was built in 1976.
Open to view at any time.
Guided tours of the cathedral are offered as part of the guided tours of the town in the weekly programme of events in the holiday region of Kufstein.
"Small yet perfectly formed"
The little church stands on a prominent mountain peak above Ebbs and is a very popular excursion destination. St. Nikolaus Kirchlein has existed in this form since 1490 and rises up a long way, warmly greeting one of the last foothills of the Zahmen Kaiser. It disappears without a trace at the base of the family seat of the Ebbs people and in another guise was a castle chapel. Very valuable fixtures, in particular the high altar. Visitors are welcome any time. Around 45 minutes walk from Ebbs.
St. Ursula parish church in Unterlangkampfen and the succursal church in Oberlangkampfen were first mentioned in documents in the 14th century, however their origins date back to the early Middle Ages.
Visible from a distance, high above Unterlangkampfen stands a small mountain cavalry chapel. You can get to the chapel in around 20 minutes.
The route to the chapel is accompanied by hand-painted crossroad signposts. The chapel on the Hechenberg was built in 1778 and is in remembrance of a successful defence against enemy attacks. The baroque wrought iron trellis is also worth looking at and is of historical value, there is also the Löffler bell from 1557; while the late classistic altar was created in 1848 by Josef Stumpf.
St. Ägidius parish church was extended in 1974/75 and renovated by the architect Prof. Clemens Holzmeister. In 1991 a Rieger organ was fitted. A modern, way of the cross painted on the vestry wall has been there to admire since 1995.
The church of St. Margreth has a bricked in stone which features the year dates 1250, 1679 and 1967. According to this it is said to have been the first church built in this region in the year 1250.
St. Margreth and St. Nikolaus too appeared in a description of the diocesan from the year 1315, as succursals of the main church in Langkampfen. There are no sources about its construction. Nevertheless it is assumed that it, and the patrocinium of St. Margreth, are part of the so-called ‘Drachenwurmheiligen’ and the geographical location would also indicate that the church in Vorderthiersee was established a bit earlier.
It was thanks to the exposed location of the town of Riedenberg that in the course of the reforms made by Emperor Josef II in 1786 there came the opportunity to erect a church in the town of Landl. At that time the town had around 240 souls, yet there was no church. It was only by way of a very positive evaluation that Landl was provided with its own church.
The chapel near Embacher in Riedenberg bears the character of a small church. It is not dated, however, it is the oldest chapel in the district of Thiersee. It would have been built by woodcutters in the 15th or 16th century. The ceiling reveals early Baroque stucco work, which has however been painted over many times. The figure of "Our Father in misery" stands, confined to a column, between two angels, and there is Joseph and Holy Leonhard, above God our Father with a globe and sceptre.
Single-nave construction, with a free-standing altar in a round apsis.
The chapel is located in the town of Sparchen. The only altar in the chapel has a baroque installation above with a rosette trellis, above the high altar there is an alcove with the statue of "Maria Loreto", surrounded by angels.
There has been a wayside shrine here since 1600. A chapel was then built in 1605. Today the church comprises a baroque central-plan building, in which, after the fire of 1703, a tambour dome with lantern was set up.
The church is located in the district of Sparchen
The Holy Trinity Church (‘Dreifaltigkeitskirche’) was built between 1500 and 1502 as a donation from the Weinränntl family, with a Crypt Chapel. The Rococo baldachin altar built in 1765 presents the coronation of the Blessed Mother by the Holy Trinity, under the image of the "Madonna vom Schwarzen Gürtel". There are sculptures of the Holy Order of St. Augustine. In the crypt (lower church) there is a beautiful trellis from 1720, the founder’s gravestone, a neo-gothic altar with a Gothic Pieta and a cross, which is still very much revered today.
The church was extended and renovated after a fire in the west wing. There has been a church here since between 650 and 680 (wooden build) and then later a small church made out of stone. The church is located in the town of Zell.
St. Vitus Parish Church is a late Gothic hall church. The chancel was built between 1390 and 1420, and the three-nave Hallenlanghaus was built around 1500. The current frescoes by Rudolf Stolz (Bozen) date from 1929, and behind the altar there are remains of frescoes dating from 1420. The late classicist altar, with its cross from 1840, are by Kufstein sculptor Kaspar Bichler. The exterior of St. Vitus Parich Church is reminiscent of a gravestone - a gothic masterpiece by Wolfgang Lees from Wasserburg – to the citizens and tradesman Hans Paumgartner (1493).
On the left banks of the River Inn, in a north-easterly direction, visible right into the distance, stands a mighty, tetragonal tower on a rocky ridge, which is covered in forest right up to the top, along with a castellated building. These are what remains of the medieval castle which was constructed by the Freundsbergs to protect their possessions in the Unterinntal. Thierberg Castle was mentioned in documents dating from around 1285 as being the castle under ownership of the Lords of Freundsberg. In 1379 it was sold to Bavaria, and in 1504 was acquired by Kufstein in Austria. In 1580 the castle chapel became a place of pilgrimage. The chapel has a rococo altar with an altar image of the "decapitation of St . Johannes" and the head of John the Baptist on a platter.
Accessibility: you can reach the castle and the chapel on foot via a forest trail which is rich in diversity. the Chapel of Grace is also easy to get to, since you can drive to Gasthof Neuhaus and then there is just a short walk to contend with.
